PURPOSE
The Digitzing Committee advises the South Central Regional Library Council on the planning, implementation, management, and funding of our regional digitizing program, Tools of History: Online Access to Historical Materials of South Central New York.
ROLE
1. Recommend policies to the Board of Trustees for the digitization program 2. Review short- and long-term goals for the Tools of History 3. Consider additions to the Tools of History repository where appropriate or make recommendations 4. Evaluate and suggest digitizing training programs 5. Establish subcommittees or task forces as necessary 6. Publicize Tools of History
2013 GOALS
The overarching Committee work will be to develop a three year work plan.
The Council manages two interrelated digitizing activities:
- Tools of History (ToH) - the cultural heritage collections managed by SCRLC
- New York Heritage (NYH) - the NY3R's digitized cultural heritage repository
The first is under direct SCRLC control, the latter is a partnership. All facets of collection management are in the hands of SCRLC staff. NYH is the organizational structure through which cataloging standards, marketing, CONTENTdm license, and overall NYH management are carried out.
To realize the three year plan the committee will work with Manager of Digitized Service as follows:
ToH
- Survey members on digitizing services needs and wants
- Document and publish collection management assumptions and collection development practices.
- Develop a curriculum that supports planning, executing, and sustaining digitized collections.
- Implement a Teaching Primary Sources (TPS) grant
- Propose the fate of the original Tools of History website
- Publish a LibGuide
NYH
- Support educational goals of NYH
- NYH website review
- Contribute to marketing
