Principle Purpose:  To support the mission and vision of the Mid York Library System. This position champions communications, customer service, and responsiveness in daily interactions between and among staff, the public, and member libraries. 
 
General Description of Expectations: The person in this position independently and efficiently administers the delivery of services related to acquisitions, cataloging, and physical processing of materials to the Mid York Library System’s member libraries and agencies.  The successful candidate has a clear understanding of the philosophy of access to library materials along with knowledge of the principles of collection development.
Examples:
•    Coordinate and oversee activities of the acquisition and technical services personnel
•    Provide consultant services to member libraries regarding collection development and materials management
•    Work collaboratively with various members of the Mid York staff on projects such as analyzing processes then suggesting or creating efficiencies
•    Work collaboratively with member library personnel on their ideas to design and create procedures to improve the processing and/or delivery of material
•    Create written procedures for activities related to acquisitions, processing, and collection development
•    Facilitate and advance communications with our customers

Required Knowledge and Abilities:
Candidate must:
•    Hold a Master of Library Science (MLS) degree from an ALA-accredited institution
•    Hold or be eligible to hold a New York State Public Librarian Certificate
•    Have 3-5 years of supervisory experience

•    Advanced knowledge of cataloging all material formats
•    Comprehensive understanding of New York State Public Library Systems

Project Archivist
NHPRC funded one year position

Responsibilities: The project Archivist is responsible for the basic processing of the existing RIT Archive Collections backlog, including RIT Archives, RIT Art Collection and the Deaf Studies Archive. This is a full-time, one-year position.

The position reports to the RIT Archivist, and works closely with the Associate Archivist and Head of Cataloging.

Specific responsibilities include:

•    Basic processing of the RIT Archives and Deaf Studies Archive
•    Hiring, supervising and managing student employees.
•    Entering collection information into the Archivists Toolkit for output as EAD finding aids and MARC records.
•    Publishing EAD finding aids on RIT Archive Collections web site using a stylesheet.
•    Working with the Head of Cataloging who will edit EAD finding aids and MARC records and upload MARC records to OCLC.
•    Assisting with any interim progress reports and the final report to be submitted to the NHPRC.

Qualifications:
•    Master’s degree in library science, certification by the Academy of Certified Archivists or Masters degree in history.
•    Knowledge of EAD and archival arrangement and descriptive standards.
•    Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Word.
•    Excellent writing and communication skills.
•    Able to work independently and as part of a team.
•    Attention to detail.

SUNY Canton - Southworth Library

Description of Duties: The  at SUNY Canton seeks a proactive, creative, service-oriented librarian with the skills to investigate and implement innovative technologies and services as well as participate in reference, collection development and library instruction.
Assist in creating and supporting a feature-rich, user-friendly information technology environment for a diverse population of library users.  Collaborate with other library staff and appropriate campus areas to enhance the library’s online presence in both the traditional and online class environments.  Recruit, train and manage circulation desk student workers.  Provide reference and instruction in both actual and virtual environments.  Oversee collection maintenance and reserves.  Assist other library staff with various projects.
This is a ten-month position reporting to the Interim VP for Student Affairs/Dean of Academic Services.
In addition to offering a variety of courses and degrees in the traditional classroom setting, SUNY Canton has an extensive online learning program which includes seven fully online degrees and 150 online courses per semester.  Library staff are involved in providing support for those courses and degrees as well as the more traditional ones.  Southworth Library has undergone an extensive renovation and is student-centered with active social spaces for collaboration and learning.


Qualifications:
Required:  MLS from an ALA accredited institution, experience providing services to library users and with web development languages, Web 2.0 applications and other emerging technologies.  The successful applicant will possess a demonstrated ability to function in an evolving organization and have excellent customer service skills.
Preferred:  Experience providing reference and library instruction services and familiarity with circulation and reserves management systems.

Job Description:
The Resnick Library is a hub for research, academic support services and social interaction. Students consistently rate the library among the top five campus resources. We provide a wide range of information resources and services for a culturally and academically diverse student body. Student services available in the library and learning center include group and peer tutoring, writing and math center, career counseling, ESL services and accommodated testing. The academic computing lab will be opening in the library in the fall 2010. Resnick Library is a member of SUNYConnect, a 64-member library consortium committed to shared library management services and collections. 
 
Primary responsibilities include providing reference service and instruction in a variety of environments (in person, online and in the classroom), managing assigned subject areas of the library collection, and participating in the development and marketing of the library's online resources. In addition, the successful candidate will collaborate with faculty to integrate library information resources into student learning and assist with assessment of collections and instruction. All library staff members participate in professional and scholarly activities, serve on campus committees, and contribute to library and staff planning.

Requirements:
Required Qualifications: Master's degree from ALA-accredited graduate program; excellent communication, problem-solving and time-management skills; proven commitment to customer service; ability to work independently and collaboratively; willingness to relate constructively to colleagues, faculty and students. Working knowledge of educational information technologies (wikis, blogs, web pages, databases, digital imaging, standard office applications), and experience organizing and managing electronic journals and other E-resources. 
 
Preferred Qualifications: Teaching at the college level, experience with student assessment and collection development; instructional technology and presentation skills.

Additional Information:
This is a full time, tenure track faculty position with an annual 10 month contract. Limited evening and weekend hours required during the academic year. Salary range: $35,000- $39,000. Excellent fringe benefits package.
