SCRLC Electronic Resources

 

Below is a brief description of the databases SCRLC subsidizes for different types of libraries in the region. SCRLC also registers libraries for databases that are on a state contract.


Britannica Online

The South Central Regional Library Council is pleased to offer databases from Britannica under the terms and conditions of the New York State contract. Britannica Online is available to all public, school, academic, and non-profit libraries.

Core Databases include: Britannica Online Academic Edition; Britannica Online Public Library Edition; Britannica Online School Edition; World Data Analyst Online: FREE with subscription to any Britannica Online edition.
Add On-Databases are: Global Reference Center; Spanish Reference Center; Webster's Third New International Dictionary Unabridged Online; Annals of American History Online.   The 12-month subscription year is July 1 to June 30, however a library can subscribe anytime throughout the year.
Statistics are provided to libraries participating in the NYS OGS program at http://statistics.eb.com/. A user ID and password is required.

NOVELny

New Yorkers can access information 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by logging on to NOVELny—the New York Online Virtual Electronic Library. A wide variety of resources − books, magazines, newspapers, research and reference sources and more are available with NO FEES. NOVELny is funded by the Federal Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) program through the New York State Library. Any not-for-profit library in New York State that is a member of a NYS library system, including SCRLC, may directly register to offer access to the NOVEL databases. Using the NOVELny website you can find a current list of available databases, information on registering, and more about statistics and frequently asked questions, please see NOVELNY Databases. EBSCO OmniFile Full Text Select

OmniFile provides precise indexing to more than 2,900 core full-text journals in the arts, business, education, humanities, law, and science.  It also includes podcasts, foreign language article translations, downloadable mp3 article readalouds, and WilsonWeb's faceted Content Discovery Keys.  If you need assistance, please contact Matthew Hogan at mhogan@scrlc.org

FirstSearch Base Package

FirstSearch is available free to all libraries within the SCRLC region. These databases include WorldCat, ArticleFirst, ContentsFirst, NetFirst, PapersFirst, ProceedingsFirst, and the Union Lists of Serials. Other useful citation databases include ERIC, GPO, and Medline.  Also are included ArchiveGrid, CAMEO, OAIster, and CONTENTdm.  Accesses to these four databases require a separate login.  Please contact Matthew Hogan at mhogan@scrlc.org for your authorization and password.  Access is through a shared port, or simultaneous user arrangement, with another 3Rs Council.  There are 15 ports available to all participating libraries.

OCLC WorldCat® (the Online Union Catalog) is a database of over 179 million bibliographic records cataloged by OCLC member libraries.

 

OCLC ArticleFirst®: IA currents contents type resource using table of contents pages of over 16,000 journals.

Gale Literature Resource Center

 

Literature Resource Center is a current, comprehensive, and reliable online resource for research on literary topics, authors, and their works. Its coverage includes all genres and disciplines, all periods, and all regions of the world. It contains full-text articles and citations.

ArchiveGrid: Provides online access to nearly a million descriptions of archival collections owned by thousands of libraries, museums, historical societies and archives worldwide. ArchiveGrid is an important destination for searching for historical documents, personal papers and family histories held in archives.

CAMIO-Catalog of Art Museum Images Online: A premier resource of high-quality art images from around the world contributed and described by leading museums, all rights-cleared for educational use. Every work in CAMIO is represented by at least one high-resolution image and a description. Many have additional views of the work, sound, video and curatorial notes. CAMIO art images span the following categories: photographs, prints, sculptures, painting, decorative arts, costumes and more.

OAIster: A union catalog of more than 19 million digital resources from over 1,000 organizations developed by the University of Michigan and harvested using OAI-PMH (Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting). Digital resources in OAIster include items such as digitized books and articles, born-digital texts, images, audio files, movies and more.
